The Average Price per Square Foot of homes that are Under Contract was $296.96 per square foot. The yearly moving average is $326.00 per square foot. For those homes that Closed Escrow this week, the yearly moving average was $271.44 per square foot.
The Labor Department announced nofarm payrolls grew by 263,000 new hires, well ahead of market expectations. They also announced that the unemployment rate fell to 3.6%. Unemployment was last this low in December 1969 when it reached 3.5%. U-6, a broader statistic that includes total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, remained at 7.3%.
Average hourly earnings growth remained at 3.2%, showing an average of $27.77. The average work week fell 0.1 hours to 34.4 hours.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to around 2.53%, and the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was down around 2.92%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose close at 26,504.95; the S&P 500 at 2,945.64, its biggest gain since April 1, while the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record high of 8,164. 
Jerome Powell, Chairman of The Federal Reserve, said in remarks on Wednesday the he feels comfortable with current policy and the Fed is likely to keep interest rates steady for an extended period of time.
